I
wanted to extend our Zuk's chassis for a long time.
Why?
We experienced problems when steering, the tires rubbed the frame and
leafsprings and we solved it by mounting Samurai axles. If the wheel
travelled up while steering the tires rubbed the bodywork. Very annoying
with our prior bodywork but horrific off course since we've got some new,
fresh painted sheetmetal...
Now that we've got the wider axles the problem becomes worse because even
a bigger part of the tires is now directly underneath the fenders.
That's why we did the rear-to-front-leaf-conversion so that the front axle
moves up a bit forward. Then off course the hanger where the shackle is
attached is 7cm too far back and that's why the expanding shackles aren't
really sitting there like they should. This and to create a platform for
the newly accuired WARN M8000 was reason enough to extend the chassis.
Today
(januari 3rd, cold) is the day, thanks to a generously donated piece of a
samurai chassis, a borrowed welding machine and my uncle Nico's firm hand
the extention is now a fact.
We've cut off the hangers off the samurai frame and put them in place, 7cm
in front of the original ones on the 410. The rear of the extention was
cut in an angle to make sure that the frame would be extended horizontally.
In total the chassis was extended by 20cm because the winch needs 16cm to
be mounted.
