| Replacing rear oil seal | |
I've heard of several different
ways to do this. The majority of the wrenchers just take of the gearbox and
work from underneath the car. I prefer to do it the other way around. I have
to explain, every bolt has been loosened before which makes this approach a
lot easier. This is what I do. |
| First I take up some "external wrenching" by taking out the doors, my hinges are modified so this is easy | |
The lower hinge comes off |
| Then remove the bolt behind the door (I've never replaced it) |
. |
Then I undo the 3 bolts on both sides underneath the fenders (red arrows). The green arrow points to 1of 2 holes where the brakelines used to be connected before the bodylift. If you're running your rig without a bodylift, don't forget to undo these 2 bolts! |
| Then remove bullbar and bumper and remove front bodybolt. Here it is seen from underneath but of course it has to be undone from above (near the headlight) Again there is a green arrow pointing to a hole but I don't have a clue what used to be here ;) |
If all cables and wiring running from bodywork to engine are disconnected as well as the airfilterbox and the battery, you can simply lift the "nose" and place it elsewhere. |
| The result, an ocean of free space around the engine.Only the cooler is in the way. |
Not anymore, 4 bolts later this obstakle is gone. |
Remove the startermotor and the
little protectionplate connected to the gearbox (underneath).Undo the
exhaust and the 4 bolts that holds the engine and gearbox. I had the worst
gasket for my exhaust so I wrenched off the complete sprocket. You can also
just remove the exhaustpipe. Make sure your engine is no longer connected to
bodywork in any way! Fix the hoist and undo the bolts in the enginesupports. Lift the engine a little and push the car back. You have just taken out your engine ;) (I usually do this in about 30~45minutes) |

From here on it is an easy job |

as well as the flywheel. Here you see the oilseal. Pull it out using a small screwdriver and place the new seal. Then, place back everything in reverse order.............. |
